Our Story


Alexander Shimpeno
Executive Chef & Owner 

Alex is a Downingtown native and graduate of Philadelphia's Restaurant School at Walnut College, Chef Alex brings 22 years of experience to the table.  

 

Alex's career started early in catering before entering the restaurant world. His 12 years of work as an Executive Chef in Chester County allowed him to put his classical training into action. His culinary works ranged from Brewpubs to Italian fare, as well as locally sourced farm-to-table dishes and Texas style BBQ.  He enjoyed two years working as the Resident Chef of a culinary training program, teaching the basics from knife skills to creating multi course meals. 

 

In 2019, Chef Alex decided to take the leap and officially open Alexander Catering Company and Shimpy's BBQ. Serving Chester County and beyond, Alex's focus is creating amazing food, served by great people to provide an outstanding experience to clients.

Alexander Catering Company is truly a labor of love operated and staffed by our family and friends.  Catering is so much more than just bringing the food, we are the backbone of each event. From menu selections, rentals, staffing, event planning, and day of execution, we are there every step of the way. 

 

When you work with Alexander Catering Company, you won't just be another client in a list of clientele.  Chef Alex works with you from the inquiry process all the way through menu creation and execution.  Our dedication is what we bring to the table and our love of the craft is evident in the quality of our food and service.  When we handle your event we dont just make some food, we treat you like family.

Things we care about

Giving Back 

We are fortunate to be to make food donations to our local food cupboard located just a block up from our building.  We also work with a number of amazing non-profit organizations each year and help towards their fund raising efforts. 

Green Initiative

Unfortunately, our industry like many others generates a fair amount of leftover product and waste.  From the cleaners we use in our kitchen, to providing sustainable plate ware options at our events, we do our part to try to minimize waste and our effects on the environment.

Community

As a small business, we understand the importance of working together and supporting our local community.  We are members of several local organizations and chambers, and purchase local product as much as possible.
